While oral medications can get rid of toenail fungus quickly, there are problems with its use. First, oral medications are not a cure-all. Your toenail fungus can still come back after treatment. Second, there is some risk of developing liver problems after taking a regular course of oral medications. For both of these reasons, many people opt to get treated with a combination of laser, topicals, and a UV shoe sanitizer. Some podiatrists will also add in a very short course of orals to boost the effectiveness of the other treatments.
